The trail connects Helensburgh and Stanwell Park train stations via the escarpment, making it a good option for those using public transport.. About 1km street walk, then steady bush climb to Bald Hill Lookout. Trail not very visible, I would not do this in the other direction, nor in low visibility. Views from Bald Hill amazing. However.

Heli-lift heads up Great Southern Walk. A 2-day helicopter operation starts today, 10 May, carrying essential materials and supplies to the Great Southern Walk track at Bald Hill in the Illawarra. Last weekend, on a sunny day watching the hang gliders on Bald Hill, I followed the landing area to the new walking track to Stanwell Park. It is beautifully constructed using sandstone buffers to make well spaced steps, an extension of the iconic Coast Track through Royal National Park, long beloved by walkers since the 1920s.

The Bald Hill Multi-Modal Path runs for 1.3 miles at the base of a hill along the eastern edge of the Bald Hill Natural Area, which contains a diverse ecosystem of prairie, hardwood forests and wetlands. Several natural surface hiking and mountain biking paths weave throughout the recreational area. Wildflowers line the trail in the spring months.
